Fire Detection and Warning

  • Raising the alarm in an emergency

Fire Extinguishers

  • Different types of fire extinguishers – water, foam, CO2, powder, and wet chemical

  • Selecting the correct extinguisher for each class of fire

  • The PASS technique – Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep

  • Practical hands-on extinguisher demonstration and practice

Emergency Evacuation Procedures

  • Evacuation strategies – simultaneous and staged evacuation

  • Role of fire wardens / marshals during an evacuation

  • Assisting vulnerable persons – mobility impaired, hearing or visually impaired

  • What to do if trapped during a fire

Evacuation Drills

Assessment and Certification

Participants are assessed through:

  • Theory assessment – multiple-choice knowledge test

  • Practical assessment – observed demonstration of correct fire extinguisher use

Successful candidates will receive a Safety Response Training certificate of attendance, valid for 3 years. Regular refresher training is recommended to maintain competence.

  • Duration: Half day (approximately 3-4 hours)

  • Delivery: Classroom-based with practical fire extinguisher demonstration

  • Class size: Small groups to ensure individual participation in practical exercises
